Are you sick? See the Doctor.

As Jesus himself began his teachings he overheard teachers of the law questioning as to the people that he was associating with.  Jesus was having dinner with Levi, a tax collector, at Levi’s house.  Just as we view the IRS as evil today (please, don’t audit meJ), in those days tax collectors were even worse.  They were tasked by the nation’s ruler to get the tax money and were paid by anything over and above what they collected.  Many of these men were not looked at as righteous or even as slightly moral people.

Jesus heard them talking and responded by saying, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Mark 2:17)  We are all sinners and we all do things that are not righteous.  The problem is that some of us think that we are not as bad as another because their sin is worse.  That is like saying that you are worse because you have cancer and I only have the flu.  The simple fact is that we are both sick.  That is how God views sin.  Whether you have murdered someone or tell a lie, you are committing sin.

Sin is sin and the punishment for sin is death.  Not the punishment for murdering someone is death and the punishment for lying is a long time-out.  To get all the facts straight, we are all created equal and we are all sinners.  Just because I am a Christian does not mean that I will no longer sin.  In fact, I probably sin the same amount as before I accepted Christ.  The difference is that I understand the sacrifice that Jesus made and TRY to be more Christ-like and walk a life without sin.

There are many things that I know based on my faith.  I know that I am not perfect and will probably screw it all up.  Now, I know that sin is death and that Jesus died for my sins.  I know that God hates sin!  Christians go to the teachings in the Bible and to Church as their medicine.  We are all sick and all need help.

Christians have just accepted that and know the only medicine to get us spiritually healthy is acknowledging the terrible death on the cross of Calvary and asking Jesus to be our savior.  This is not something that you have to do right this second.  I am not pressuring you, only presenting my beliefs.  I hope and pray that everyone who reads this will ultimately believe my words and are able to forget all those that have judged them.  It is your decision and should be based on your beliefs.

Please, continue reading this series.  There is no harm in reading this, in fact, it is all anonymously read from the comfort of your own computer.
